The Roots Tapped For 1st Annual ‘Comedy Awards” Honoring Eddie Murphy

(AllHipHop News) Grammy Award winning Hip-Hop band The Roots will provide the soundtrack for Comedy Central’s first-ever “Comedy Awards” which will celebrate the nation’s top comedic talent on television this April.

Famed actor/stand-up comedian Eddie Murphy will receive the network’s inaugural “Comedy Icon Award” for his contributions to comedy, TV and film.

“Eddie Murphy’s impact in the world of comedy is immeasurable,” said Casey Patterson, executive producer and executive vice president, event production, MTV Networks Entertainment Group. “From the characters he created on ‘SNL,’ to his groundbreaking stand-up performances and unforgettable film roles, Murphy changed the game forever and we’re honored that he will be joining us for the first-ever Comedy Awards.”

Confirmed presenters and attendees include Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, Tracy Morgan, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, Matt Stone, Trey Parker, Louis C.K. and numerous others.

The taping of the first annual “Comedy Awards” will take place at New York City’sHammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, March 26.

The show will premiere on Sunday, April 10, 2011, simultaneously across MTV Networks’ Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1 and Nick At Nite.
